My elusive butterfly
woke up this morning
and said time to fly.
Left me in mourning
with a soft lingering sigh.

Freedom his only love
he's gone with the wind.
Fluttering in the sky above
never to be pinned.

Disappearing out of sight
with colors bursting on his wing.
Take care of yourself tonight
I say,
as the heavens open to let him in.

Now he is to me no more.
He's lost to me above so high.
My voice is like an echo-roar
My butterfly,
Goodbye, goodbye.

Why Not?

Why not say  I love you
when instead you say I care.
It's really just a little thing
for each of us to share.
And yet it's not so easy
for you to play that part.
It hurts a little, but even so
it's more than just a start.
For when you say, I love you
it begins the exposé
of things you always leave unsaid,
but feel inside instead.
So if you really want to tell
but would rather not this way.
Don't you think we might as well
decide that we're okay?
