Army 1st Lt. Elizabeth Whiteside was judged by her superiors to be a model officer. But after suffering a psychiatric breakdown in Iraq, she has found herself facing criminal charges for attempted suicide and endangering the life of another soldier. Her story shows that the Army continues to grapple with soldiers who suffer mental trauma in a combat zone:  http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/photo/gallery/071130/GAL-07Nov30-95823/index.html

Why God Made Moms (thanks Gillian)
2nd grade school children

Why did God make mothers?
1. She's the only one who knows where the scotch tape is.
2. Mostly to clean the house.
3. To help us out of there when we were getting born.

How did God make mothers?
1. He used dirt, just like for the rest of us.
2. Magic plus super powers and a lot of stirring.
3. God made my Mom just the same like he made me.  He just used bigger parts.

What ingredients are mothers made of?
1. God makes mothers out of clouds and angel hair and everything nice in the world and one dab of mean.
2. They had to get their start from men's bones. Then they mostly use string, I think.

Why did God give you your mother and not some other Mom?
1. We're related.
2. God knew she likes me a lot more than other people's moms like me.

What kind of little girl was your Mom?
1. My Mom has always been my Mom and none of that other stuff.
2. I don't know because I wasn't there, but my guess would be pretty bossy.
3. They say she used to be nice.

What did Mom need to know about dad before she married him?
1. His last name.
2. She had to know his background. Like is he a crook? Does he get drunk on beer?
3. Does he make at least $800 a year? Did he say NO to drugs and YES to chores?

Why did your Mom marry your dad?
1. My dad makes the best spaghetti in the world.  And my Mom eats a lot.
2. She got too old to do anything else with him.
3. My grandma says that Mom didn't have her thinking cap on.

Who's the boss at your house?
1. Mom doesn't want to be boss, but she has to because dad's such a goof ball.
2. Mom. You can tell by room inspection. She sees the stuff under the bed.
3. I guess Mom is, but only because she has a lot more to do than dad.

What's the difference between moms & dads?
1. Moms work at work and work at home and dads just go to work at work.
2. Moms know how to talk to teachers without scaring them.
3. Dads are taller & stronger, but moms have all the real power 'cause that's who you got to ask if you want to sleep over at your friend's.
4. Moms have magic, they make you feel better without medicine.

What does your Mom do in her spare time?
1. Mothers don't do spare time.
2. To hear her tell it, she pays bills all day long.

What would it take to make your Mom perfect?
1. On the inside she's already perfect.  Outside, I think some kind of plastic surgery.
2. Diet. You know, her hair. I'd diet, maybe blue.

If you could change one thing about your Mom, what would it be?
1. She has this weird thing about me keeping my room clean.  I'd get rid of that.
2. I'd make my Mom smarter. Then she would know it was my sister who did it and not me.
3. I would like for her to get rid of those invisible eyes on the back of her head.

kids! i love them so!

turning lemons into lemonade
posted 2/13

came home yesterday to
a flood in the basement
the sump pump
had stopped working...
somehow boxes
of old theater archives
and
my genealogy files
had found themselves
on the floor
that day!
you guessed it...
sopping wet through!
all of it...
talk about devastated!
after i stopped screaming
we laid each piece of wet paper
lovingly out on towels
all over the house...
as if the house didn't look like a
hurricane had hit already!
but you know that saying
everything happens for a reason?
well...
the universe was simply
replying to my request...
"hmmm i was saying the other day...
i really need to get my files in order..."
so here we are
now i have no choice!
not exactly the way i had expected
but i figure i'd better turn a lemon
into lemonade
or i'd be still be screaming...
found an old original script
for a genuine english pantomime
that my mum, dad and a friend had
written....
Hi Di Hi!
yes, that's the name of it
with characters like
buttons
the wise owl
the wickedy witch
and the famous
pie throwers
bakers miller and holt!
anyone interested in
producing it?
i also found the
marriage certificate of
my grandmother and
last will and testament
of my great grandmother
which, in part, says:
"my last request to my husband
is that he will look ever to his children,
giving up the drink, and seek strength
from on high to be faithful to his duty."
awwww so sweet
treasures

had a dream
the other night…
someone was hugging me
they looked at me
straight in the eyes
and asked,
“what is your definition of love?”
i stopped short…
i thought…
i answered,
“love to me is everything
it is comfort and joy
it is peace
it is having faith in another
it is being vulnerable
it is unconditional
sometimes it hurts
and sometimes it soothes...
that's the risk we take
for there cannot be
anything else…
if there is love
there is love…
it is infinite...
but to those who
have never felt it
...indescribable…
and that makes me
sad...saddest of all...
to feel it
is to know…
love is everything."

may you always have
as much love
as you will
ever need
and may
you feel blessed
enough to
return it ten fold

have a loving day! spread it near and far...

tips for staying healthy

i came across this website
and found some good
healthy tips...
offered here from dr. david
a retired naturopathic physician
who runs Bald Mountain Retreat

"I woke up, looked out the window and thought I had gone to heaven. The Northeast Kingdom is the crown of Vermont's natural beauty and Bald Mountain Retreat is a jewel in that crown. Most people have never seen such beauty. The sweetest piece of land in Vermont. Where Vermonters go to get away."

his tips:

Avoid hydrogenated oils/(commercial) peanut butter
These artificial oils are at the root of many diseases. Hydrogenated oils have been altered to be solid at room temperature. As oils they are stored in various tissues, however, since they are artificial they cannot be metabolized by the body. Eventually, the body may mount an immune response against these foreign oils damaging the tissue in which they are stored. This can lead to diseases such as multiple sclerosis and fibromyalgia among others. Buy old-fashioned peanut butter. Stir it and store it in the refrigerator where it will not separate. Use butter instead of margarine. Butter’s better for your heart anyway. Your favorite foods are all available without hydrogenated oils. Read labels.

Change your shampoo
Sodium laurel sulfate that your shampoo label innocuously asserts is derived from coconut oil actually causes cancer. It is absorbed through the skin and although it may not be a potent carcinogen it is one that is easy to avoid. Look for shampoo that advertises “No Laurel Sulfates.” Or better yet, just use dilute castille soap as shampoo. Check your toothpaste while you’re at it.

Freshen air naturally/ beware of scented candles
Synthetic air fresheners are the biggest source of indoor air pollution, and indoor air pollution is often worse than outdoor. Think about all those artificial chemicals that you spray around the house to mask odors. The phylates in (virtually) all major air fresheners have been proven to cause cancer. Use a natural room deodorizer made of citrus. These natural, citrus products smell great and, instead of masking odors, actually clean the air.

Artificial chemicals are often toxic (fabric softeners, scented candles.) Most scents are phytates, derived from petrochemicals. Phytates are recognized by the federal government as being toxic. Its ironic that what we are using to make our houses smell pretty is poisoning us.

Alkalinize your body
Our body chemistry is designed to work in a specific acid-alkaline balance (pH range.) Outside of this range disease and death occur. Hyper-alkalinity is rare, while hyper-acidity is common.

Our bodies have three mechanisms for reducing acidity:

1) Breathing, i.e., exhaling carbon dioxide; Hold your breath as long as you can. At some point around a minute your body demands that you breathe. This is not because you need oxygen. When you need oxygen you start feeling faint. No, this demand for breath is because you need to blow off the carbon dioxide that's been building up while you've been holding your breath. Your body needs to ventilate, to lower its state of acidity by exhaling carbon dioxide.

2) Urination; Acidic ions are peed out in the urine

3) Borrowing Calcium form the Bone; Gardeners know, if the soil is too acidic, put lime on it. Lime is calcium (from oyster shells.) Your body knows, if the blood is too acidic draw calcium out of the bones to neutralize it.

Chronic acidosis with its continuous demand for calcium from the bones causes osteoporosis. For more, go to:

okay time to get serious...
a controversial subject to be sure
using life forms for experimental medicine
putting the human species
above the animal species...
a subject i've never covered
in depth before.
i used to love to fish
until i began to reason
don't fish feel pain?
i am not a vegetarian
so cannot speak
with any honest resolve...
but i can think
consciously about it...
it's a touchy subject to many.
i couldn't abide hurting more
evolved animals
so why does this "feel" okay?
the answer?
personally?
i don't know...
and that's the truth
i do know this...
i lost both my parents
to cancer
i'd have given anything
to make them well again
to have a few more years
with them by my side
even at my age now
i still feel the need for
their support
their love
their encouragement...
it comes in a different
form now...
but the hugs are missing
and the telephone no
longer rings...
so to say that i don't want
experiments done
is to not tell the truth...
in a very selfish way
i want this disease
ERADICATED
in every way possible...
so to ask this question
was it this fish's mission
in life to help us find
THE CURE
is a beginning...
we'll never know...
but i know this too
i am truly grateful for
it's sacrifice...
and i want to humbly
thank you little fishy.

this is a subject that has always
interested me...
kirlian photography
is a process that
measures the
energy transmitted
from all forms of life
including plants
it is especially interesting to me
as a reiki practioner
who deals with energy
on a daily basis...
through this process
of measurement
the energy emitting
from a person
working with reiki
has been proven
to exist in many
varying forms...
but what is fascinating
most of all
is that
while it is called
photography
there is no camera
involved in the process...
i know this first hand
through conducting
various experiments
myself
with some
outstanding
results...
when i can get it together
i will put up those
photographs here
for all to see...
so for the moment
here's a very interesting
video about the kirlian method...
when you have a few minutes
i invite you to take a look
if you're interested.

blessings my friends
