special workshop!
be yourselves!

"Every new year
people make resolutions
to change aspects of themselves
they believe are negative.
A majority of people revert back
to how they were before
and feel like failures.
This year I challenge you
to a new resolution.
I challenge you
to just be yourself."
~ Aisha Elderwyn

oh yes! this is the struggle
to be who we are deep
down inside...
to show others
the love that
is there...
and the
need we feel
to belong...
it's okay
to be vulnerable
to be ourselves...
truly
it is...
for how else
can we get to know
ourselves
let alone each other?

this is my continuing
resolution....
that i keep striving
to be
who i was meant to be
when that very
first spark
ignited
and my birth
was at hand...
be ever so gentle
and as kind as
you can
for it is true
that whenever
we speak
we really want
the same in
return
and i
to be
a blessing
to you
in kind.

may blessings be upon you throughout 2008 my friends and loved ones....

PEACE and LOVE always!

IN REVIEW
the future

"The future enters into us,
in order to transform itself
in us, long before it happens."
Rainer Maria Rilke

so......
back to work and so it begins
how is your year so far?
me?
crunch mode already
there comes a time
posted 1/5

you know.....
i've tried not to be
actively political
in my life.....
i've often believed
that it causes stress
to me
and to others
at least more stress
than i'm willing to bear...
and i've performed
my citizenship duties
quietly.....
but there comes a time
when it is so evident
that we must speak up
it is almost a sin
not to....
i am ashamed
to admit
that until "His"
second term
i didn't realize
how much of a pacifist
i really was...
i remember 1963 as if
it were yesterday....
coming to the greatest
country in the world
the united states of america...
how grand we felt
how special!
where nothing was impossible
and every opportunity
available to us...
but then
there was vietnam
and i saw
my young friends
off to war
back then too....
and hating
every moment of it....
i argue now
with my own husband
about our diminishing
lack of freedom...
it's the terrorists' fault
says he...
yes, i say
but so is it the
bureaucrats
who live in the same fear
as he...
there is a better way
for sure...
i don't pretend to know
what that better way is...
but then i'm not
the president
of a threatened country...
all i do know is
that there has
to be a better way...
less torturous
less dishonest
less freedom taking
and a
less God forsaking
way....
i do not wish to be
the judge
and the jury
as some others
want to be...
i simply want
America
back
the way it was
for me
in 1963

without war

in vietnam
in iraq
in afghanistan
in africa
in the world

so i will do my part
by speaking up

tell me more about
what needs
to be done
and i will do it...

like stars across the sky
we were born to shine
all of us here
because we believe

i believe in
us the people

do you?

"There are too many moments these days
when we cannot recognize our country.
Sunday was one of them, as we read the
account in The Times of how men in some
of the most trusted posts in the nation
plotted to cover up the torture of prisoners
by Central Intelligence Agency interrogators
by destroying videotapes of their sickening
behavior. It was impossible to see the founding
principles of the greatest democracy in the
contempt these men and their bosses showed
for the Constitution, the rule of law and
human decency....................to read the rest:

Humble chief gains national attention
by Staff Sgt. Jeremy Larlee
Air Force Print News

11/10/2006 - MCCONNELL AIR FORCE BASE, Kan. (AFPN) -- All of the attention embarrasses him, but as this chief master sergeant learned recently, a lifetime of caring and good deeds is bound to catch up with you eventually.

Chief Master Sgt. John Gebhardt, superintendent of the 22nd Wing Medical Group here, recently gained worldwide attention for a photo of him holding an injured Iraqi child. The photo was taken about a month ago [10/06], while he was deployed to Balad Air Base in Iraq.

The young infant had received extensive gunshot injuries to her head when insurgents attacked her family killing both of her parents and many of her siblings. The chief had a knack for comforting her and they often would catch a cat nap together in a chair.

ah those inner voices
calling to us

ignorance is bliss

remains quietly still
and it is only when
we awake
that we can know in full

happy 5th birthday Jacob!

Jacob Ryan by me

I watched the little rascal
while in his crib one day
up against the mirror
making faces to himself.

He was acting in a play
making scowls and then
he’d smile. Backwards
and forwards. What was
he rehearsing for?

At only eighteen months
I wonder if he knew
that the one smiling back
was his alter ego too?

Blue eyed blonde with
curls all neatly shorn,
did I detect atop that
beautiful head a little
horn or two?

and so the tradition continues!

heavens above!
where does the time go?
it's nearly february
and time to think
about what's ahead
for the new month coming.
was it just 29 days ago
that we looked forward
to a new year?
before we know it
it will be summer
and all the glory
the sun brings will
be upon us.
too much to do
too little time to
do it in!
february and march
two months of
remembrances..
for me
it's always a
time of reflection
this time of year...
remembering
and
loving
two people
who were my world...
where does our grief
go?
it heals slowly
it does heal
but never completely...
there are always
those certain days
that conjure up
the feelings of
loss and the hole
that we feel
in our hearts...
and we remember
the overwhelming
blessings
that they
were
and
always will be...
the newness of it
surprises me
these 21 years later
but we carry on
and continue as best we can
to build our own legacies
of hope and love.

my prayer
posted 1/30

Oh God-our heavenly Father.
Oh, God-and my father
Who is also in heaven.
May the light of this
Flickering candle
Illuminate the night the way
Your spirit illuminates my soul.

Papa, can you hear me?
Papa, can you see me?
Papa can you find me in the night?
Papa are you near me?
Papa, can you hear me?
Papa, can you help me not be frightened?
Looking at the skies I seem to see
A million eyes which ones are yours?
Where are you now that yesterday
Has waved goodbye
And closed its doors?
The night is so much darker;
The wind is so much colder;
The world I see is so much bigger
Now that I'm alone.
Papa, please forgive me.
Try to understand me;
Papa, don’t you know I had no choice?
Can you hear me praying,
Anything I'm saying
Even though the night is filled with voices?
I remember everything you taught me
Every book 1've ever read...
Can all the words in all the books
Help me to face what lies ahead?
The trees are so much taller
And I feel so much smaller;
The moon is twice as lonely
And the stars are half as bright...
Papa, how I love you...
Papa, how I need you.
Papa, how I miss you
Kissing me good night...

make me a friend
