"For, lo, the winter is past,
the rain is over and gone;
the flowers appear on the earth;
the time of the singing of birds
is come."
~ Song of Solomon 2:11-12 kjv

i remember when i owned everything
the sun and the moon and the rain
and my domain
stretched out yonder
on the astral planes

the universe is a toy in the mind of a boy
and life is a movie too
starring you
your whole family is the cast and crew
that's a little secret between god and you

but aint it strange how it all makes perfect sense
once your life becomes evidence
the need to feel
that love makes it more than real

because your mother's love might seem insane
it's 'cause she really knows everything
too bad it takes so long
too see what you've been missing

'cause the real is a construct
it's the raw nerve's private zone
it's the personal sunset
your drive off into alone

just returned
from a visit
with my friend
of fifty years...
drove ten hours
each way
an adventure
to be sure...
we talked
and we talked
some more
never stopping
for a breath
but for tea
and more
tea...
we met in
england
at school
i was 11
she was 10...
we reminisced...
our school days...
miss smith
who always said
look up girls!
look up!
while we walked
down pultney st
to our luncheon
hall...
bev went for a visit
a while back
and with her
other old school chum
walked the path
again
remembering
miss smith
and her mantra
look up girls...
as they remembered
this sage advice
they both looked up
and on the top
of one of the buildings
was a mural
a beautiful piece of art
celebrating the
beauty of a city
that we both loved...
had they not
looked up
they would never
have seen it!
i loved miss smith
she was a task master
and very strict
but i learned from her
so many things
that i've never forgotten...
old friends are treasures
too
who can never be replaced
they keep your memories
alive...
we must remember where
we came from
in order
to move forward...
look up girls and boys!
look up!

long weekend
a holiday for some
gardening
spring cleaning
picnics
barbeques
family get togethers
beach if we're lucky
but we must not
forget
during our activities
to remember
our men and women
in iraq and around the world
who are there because
they believe in peace
and our freedom
this weekend it is
120 degrees (F)
in iraq...
how are they surviving
it boggles the mind....
we also remember
our fathers, brothers,
uncles, grandfathers
who served the same
way back in the '40s...
a war that served the world
not just an egotistical
minority of politicians...
saying my peace..
remembering my roots
and praying for each
and every one of them now...
god bless one and all

and so we pray
