isn't this the most darling picture! the quote says:

"Choose your friends by their character and your socks by their color. Choosing your socks by their character makes no sense, and choosing your friends by their color is unthinkable." ~ Anon.

i completely fell in love with these two little girls, when i saw this picture.....and the saying is just wonderful....thank you Marcia

speaking of socks....
it was dark one morning....
i was in a rush to get ready....
i didn't bother to put on the light....
sure enough, later i find that i had on
one navy blue and one black sock....
which is okay if my pants covered them...
but i also had on one navy blue and one black shoe (each the same type of shoe) and not matched with the right socks either...
so i guess choosing my shoes and socks according to their color is a non-issue for me!

but it's true...
i feel so blessed to have friends with impeccable character....they are such a treasure to me...i can be sure that when i ask them for advice they will always give me the truth..no matter what...you know who you are....i recognize each and every one of you with thanks and appreciation in abundance...

this is the view i have when i look out of my window while i'm working at the shop....i looked up tonight as the sun was setting and couldn't resist running outside to look at the colors....
the pic doesn't do it justice but wanted to share it with you....magnificent!

"Today is unique! It has never occurred before and it will never be repeated. At midnight it will end, quietly, suddenly, totally. Forever. But the hours between now and then are opportunities with eternal possibilities." ~ Charles R. Swindoll

well....my midnight has come and gone by 26 minutes....and so a new day begins......

because so many have their own music playing while browsing, i decided not to have the movie at the top on automatic play....if you want to see it and hear it...please do turn it on yourself
i also decided to separate the prayer circle and in loving memory pages....wasn't quite sure about doing this, but made an executive decision....
easier for me and less confusing for visitors....
i think...
please do comment if you find it not so convenient..
don't like changes, but sometimes it's necessary!

speaking of which:

Alfred North Whitehead said, "The art of progress is to preserve order amid change and to preserve change amid order."

that makes sense to me...

change is sometimes difficult, but in order to preserve order in our lives, we must fight the instinct to remain stagnant and move about with the freedom to change what is necessary....

on a much larger scale, a little like how i feel about our country at the moment....small changes....day by day

and so it goes.....

have a wonderful Tuesday!

acts of random kindness - ARK
the movie
despite all the critics
i wanted to see it
loved it
understood it
it is important to take a stand
once we believe
sure it is our own belief
but nevertheless it is real
to us
so we take a stand
in whatever way
we can
i can
can you?

back in october (see archives)
i promised to tell you what my ARK was
but i've changed my mind
what good is it
if kindness is broadcast
it is in the act
the doing
not the reward

so go ahead perform your ARK and
know that it doesn't matter if
anyone knows about it
the fact is
you do
and that's what counts!

love you all
have a great day!

"Happiness is a sunbeam....When it strikes a kindred heart, like the converged lights upon a mirror, it reflects itself with redoubled brightness. It is not perfected until it is shared" ~ Jane Porter

childhood memories of many happy days
our french exchange student
joining us on the beach
at polzeath
where is my shade?
she would ask
as the sun shone with no cloud in sight
it was as important to her as
the sun was to me

different needs
different priorities
different opinions
different cultures

yet at that time she was the big sister i never had and i loved her

it was an attempt at understanding, bad judgment and naivete that finally set us apart

but i remember those days
the sun made me happy
and she did too

i looking for my sun
she looking for her shade

"We encounter God in the ordinariness of life:
not in the search for spiritual highs and extraordinary mystical experiences but in our simple presence in life." ~ Brennan Manning

and so it goes...
we are all brothers and sisters in this school of life
because we are all equal under the eyes of God

our extraordinary-ness comes from being present in our own lives and living simply...extending our love and light to each other so that everyone can love and shine their own lights exponentially....it is the law of the universe

we leave tomorrow afternoon to travel north
for the funeral of a loved one
it has actually been described as
a service to celebrate life
ah yes....
much better....
more to the point
i feel
knowing what i know
believing what i believe
seeing what i've seen

that we really do live on
in a different place and time
to continue our journey
in a different form
with an energy
unfamiliar to us
here on earth

our loved one has moved on
to explore a more fulfilling
existence
and
it is okay
if that's what he felt
was needed

human life transitions to
spiritual life
the life that is all being
the one from which we
first came
it is home
and we are welcomed
there with open arms

to meet once again
our loved ones who went
before

joined together always
no matter where we are
here, there, everywhere

and so we move forward
with hope in our hearts
and sending love to spur
him along his new found
path

it is done and it is good
for now all is clear and bright
truth reigns and love is abundant
and he is all-knowing in the
ways of the universe

he will be there to help us
celebrate himself and we
will be better for it

may god's blessings be upon us all
and lift the spirits of those who mourn....
who feel the pain of his physical
loss and are overwhelmed in grief

amen and amen

Death is nothing at all...
I have only slipped away to the next room...
I am I and you are you...
Whatever we were to each, that we are still.

Call me by my old familiar name,
Speak it to me in the same way you always used.
Put no difference into your tone,
Wear no false air of solemnity or sorrow.

Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes we enjoyed together.
Play, smile, think of me, pray for me.
Let my name be ever the household word that it always was.
Let it be spoken without effect, without the ghost of a shadow on it.

Life means all that it ever meant.
It is the same as it ever was.
There is absolutely unbroken continuity.
What is this death but a negligible accident.

I am but waiting for you for an interval
Somewhere very near
Just around the corner.
All is well.

"The quality of mercy is not strained; it droppeth as the gentle rain from heaven; upon the place beneath; it is twice blessed; it blesseth him that giveth and him that taketh." ~ Shakespeare

and on we go...a new day...a new week...peace
"People are often unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered; forgive them anyway.

If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives; be kind anyway.

If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies; succeed anyway.

If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you; be honest and frank anyway.

What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight; build anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness, there may be jealousy; be happy anyway.

The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow; do good anyway.

Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough; give the world the best you've got anyway.

You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and God; it was never between you and them anyway."

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

science vs. religion

"...understanding is a three edged sword: your side, their side, and the truth." - Sheridan from the
1994-1998 TV-Series Babylon 5 by J.M. Straczynski

it has always been a source of frustration for me not to have an effective way to discuss my belief that science and religion are one and the same, and i always come up short in my ability to explain why i think this is so.

it was a gift to me, then, to receive this following article in a message from a colleague last night...

it certainly explains it for me, and provides a very interesting perspective on how faith really does come into play when it comes to science!

well said paul! and thanks!

Taking Science on Faith
By PAUL DAVIES
Tempe, Ariz.

SCIENCE, we are repeatedly told, is the most reliable form of knowledge about the world because it is based on testable hypotheses. Religion, by contrast, is based on faith. The term “doubting Thomas” well illustrates the difference. In science, a healthy skepticism is a professional necessity, whereas in religion, having belief without evidence is regarded as a virtue.

The problem with this neat separation into “non-overlapping magisteria,” as Stephen Jay Gould described science and religion, is that science has its own faith-based belief system. All science proceeds on the assumption that nature is ordered in a rational and intelligible way. You couldn’t be a scientist if you thought the universe was a meaningless jumble of odds and ends haphazardly juxtaposed. When physicists probe to a deeper level of subatomic structure, or astronomers extend the reach of their instruments, they expect to encounter additional elegant mathematical order. And so far this faith has been justified....for more
