shine! a prayer of grace and forgiveness
posted 10/1

by Joni Mitchell

Oh let your little light shine
Let your little light shine
Shine on Vegas and Wall Street
Place your bets
Shine on all the fishermen
With nothing in their nets
Shine on rising oceans and evaporating seas
Shine on our Frankenstein technologies
Shine on science
With its tunnel vision
Tunnel vision
Shine on fertile farmlands
Buried under subdivisions

Oh let your little light shine
Oh let your little light shine
Shine on the dazzling darkness
That restores us in deep sleep
Shine on what we throw away
And what we keep

Shine on Reverend Pearson
Who threw away
The vain old God
And kept Dickens and Rembrandt and Beethoven
And fresh plowed sod
Shine on good earth, good air, good water
And a safe place
For kids to play
Shine on bombs exploding
Half a mile away

Oh let your little light shine
Let your little light shine
Shine Shine
Shine on world-wide traffic jams
Honking day and night
Shine on another asshole
Passing on the right
Shine on all the red light runners
Busy talking on their cell phones
Shine on the Catholic Church
And the prisons that it owns
Shine on all the Churches
They all love less and less
Shine on a hopeful girl
In a dreamy dress

Oh let your little light shine
Shine Shine Shine
Let your little light shine
Shine on good humor
Shine on good will
Shine on lousy leadership
Licensed to kill
Shine on dying soldiers
In patriotic pain
Shine on mass destruction
In some God's name
Shine on the pioneers
Those seekers of mental health
Craving simplicity
They traveled inward
Past themselves
May their little lights shine
May all their little lights shine

Exploding Windmill during a hurricane...
and we have a problem with power resources!
These dolphins make their own bubbles and then play with them....fascinating!

grace and acceptance
posted 10/5

"Grace tells us that we are accepted
just as we are. We may not be the
kind of people we want to be, we
may be a long way from our goals,
we may have more failures than
achievements, we may not be
wealthy or powerful or spiritual, we may not even be happy, but we are nonetheless accepted by God, held in His hands." McCullough

i really can't explain why joni's new album
has moved me so....
it's just one of those things...
perhaps when i was younger
i couldn't relate...
never a fan
of "folksy" music
way back then...
but now it's
her sincerity
that is so endearing
to me...
and the music
resonates so completely...
see for yourself...
happy birthday nathanial!

my firstborn grandson...

so hard to realize
he is EIGHT today!
growing up so fast...

lots of ideas
inquisitive
sensitive
and
very loving...
I love you darling!

your grammy

my three beautiful boys!
fall, beautiful fall
posted 10/14

only in america...
the blue sky
the glorious
reds, greens, yellows...
i remember painting
a picture of fall
when i first came here...
so enthralled i was...
take it back to england
nobody would believe it...
think i'd made up the colors..
but no it is real...
real beauty
in its purest form...
the majesty of life...
death in the fall
rebirth in the spring....
how can we not believe
we do that ourselves!

cooking and politics
posted 10/17

not much relation between the two...
or is there?
if we follow a recipe while cooking
and we put in all the ingredients
correctly
disasters can still happen
nonetheless...
a perfect recipe
yet a ruined meal...
there are so many variables...
same goes for politics...
we can have the
seemingly perfect candidate
[at least to us]
with all the right ingredients
and something can still go wrong
in the blending of ideas...
a misprinted quote
the timing is off
the wrong mix of people
new ideas not blended properly...
i wish i was confident of
my choice of recipe...
i tried a carrot soup once
it turned out fabulously...
i tried a beef bourguignon once
it tasted disgusting...
both looked delicious
and i had followed the directions
by the letter...
you just have to trust that
those who are writing the recipe
know what they are doing...
sometimes you win
sometimes you lose...
unfortunately, in today's election
many millions of people
stand the chance of losing...
so who's writing the recipe?
how do we know it's the right one
and that there are no typos or
misquotes
or the timing is right
or the mix of people are in sync?
it only takes a tablespoon
instead of a teaspoon
and it's all a disaster...
alas, we can't just throw
the dish away...
we are stuck with our
candidate for four years...
my faith is not where it should be
and i am trembling at the thought
of the soup we are about to make
for america's future...
please god let us come up with
the right ingredients
and enough sweet apples
to fill our all-american apple pie
with grace, honestly and a
strong, yet loving mix of leadership...

and with that having been said...
a little something on the lighter side...
i don't know about you
but i needed a laugh today!
and thanks for the inspiration
rachael...
the best blog i've come across in a long time!

her name is helen
she is 82 years old
her grandson taught her how to blog
i want to be feisty like her when i'm 82!

great ideas from ramesh

"for many of us, cooking is great fun.
but it's getting all the ingredients ready
that can be a major headache.
for instance, skinning cloves of garlic
or baby onions isn't a task many cooks
look forward to.
well, here's an easy way to go about it."

newt gingrich

i've never been a fan
of gingrich...
read too many
derogatory things about him...
yet...
this came across
my computer today..
it would be remiss of me
not to forward it on...
because simply
what he says
makes perfect sense
to me...
and i'm all for giving
the other guy a chance...
it's 37 mins long, so when you have
the time...

it doesn’t interest me what you do for a living...
i want to know what you ache for
and
if you dare to dream of meeting your heart’s longing...

it doesn’t interest me how old you are...
i want to know if you will risk looking like a fool
for love
for your dream
for the adventure of being alive...

it doesn’t interest me what planets are squaring your moon...
i want to know if you have touched the center
of your own sorrow
if you have been opened by life’s betrayals
or have become shrivelled and closed
from fear of further pain...

i want to know if you can sit with pain...
mine or your own
without moving to hide it
or fade it
or fix it...

i want to know if you can be with joy...
mine or your own
if you can dance with wildness
and let the ecstasy fill you
to the tips of your fingers and toes
without cautioning us
to be careful
to be realistic
to remember the limitations of being human...

it doesn’t interest me if the story
you are telling me is true...
i want to know if you can
disappoint another
to be true to yourself...
if you can bear the accusation of betrayal
and not betray your own soul...
if you can be faithless
and therefore trustworthy...

i want to know if you can see beauty
even when it is not pretty every day...
and if you can source your own life
from its presence...

i want to know if you can live with failure...
yours and mine
and still stand at the edge of the lake
and shout to the silver of the full moon,
YES!

it doesn’t interest me to know
where you live
or how much money you have...
i want to know if you can get up
after the night of grief and despair
weary and bruised to the bone
and do what needs to be done
to feed the children...

it doesn’t interest me who you know
or how you came to be here...
i want to know if you will stand
in the centre of the fire
with me
and not shrink back...

it doesn’t interest me where
or what
or with whom
you have studied...
i want to know what sustains you
from the inside
when all else falls away...

i want to know if you can be alone
with yourself
and if you truly like the company you keep
in the empty moments...

and i know
of course i'm prejudiced!

thing

of course!
the trees were gorgeous!

well i've almost made up my mind...
especially after i saw the man
who would be the head of our
blessed country
acting like a buffoon...

i thought to myself
is this the man i want to represent our country
as the leader of the free world?

bad enough that he has chosen a running mate
who is against the right of a woman to choose for herself...
who is homophobic...
who is probably a genuinely nice person
but not very bright...
in my humble opinion...

this is a travesty...
it is also 2008
we must move
on....
same, same, same!
but whatever your choice
PLEASE VOTE!
happy halloween
posted 10/31

i'm almost ashamed to admit
i don't like halloween...
don't like the idea of it
the spooks
the darkness
the scariness
the symbolism
call me fun spoiler
or crotchety old woman
whatever...
we never celebrated
this in england...
not that that is the reason
why i don't like halloween...
scotland did
but england didn't
at least not way back then...
my sister
thinks i'm quite mad
she's a fool at halloween...
(another english term for cutup)
remember she came to visit
me for lunch
at my work
dressed up in full regalia
as a pirate no less!
that was fun
and i enjoy everyone else's fun...
just not for me i guess...
once dressed up like
spider woman
got the prize...
it was a hassle all night
to keep up the fascade...
don't need the cover
now...
like to think
i don't need to pretend
to be who i am not
anymore....
used to...
but not anymore...
no more acting...
straight from the heart
that's me...
like it or lump it
oh and i'm
beginning to wear
purple! lololol

have a great time with the kids
i would be too, if mine were close by...
but don't ask me to dress up...
i'm beyond it...
such a spoilsport i know

whoooohooooo!
