healing the war torn soul - special workshop!
posted 1/17
"War may sometimes be a necessary evil. But no matter how necessary, it is always an evil, never a good. We will not learn how to live together in peace by killing each other's children." ~ Jimmy Carter
Soldier’s Heart, a term coined at the time of the Civil War to describe Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PSTD), is a grass-roots healing project for at-risk veterans based on Ed Tick’s book, War and the Soul: Healing Our Nation's Veterans From Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (Quest Books, 2005).
Since his book hit the shelves in November 2005, author Ed Tick has been touring the country talking about the psycho-spiritual needs of veterans when they return home from war. The key to healing, says Ed Tick, is in how we understand PTSD. He redefines PTSD as an identity disorder with radical implications for therapy. First, Tick establishes the traditional context of war in mythology and religion. Then he describes in depth PTSD in terms of identity issues. Finally, he presents ways to nurture a positive, passive warrior identity based in compassion and forgiveness.
More importantly, Soldier’s Heart prepares communities to support troops returning from war and all other veterans with an emphasis on tradition, psychology, and spirituality for their homecoming and healing. It offers a series of experiential veterans’ return retreats to address the unique needs of veterans and at the same time train professionals and clergy to help returnees. Areas to be addressed are identity issues, homecoming and integration back into society. Retreats are open to all veterans and their support networks.
Patty Hall of The Source of Light and I are planning a special workshop in March, sponsored by The Theosophical Society. The workshop is intended to educate communities in how to offer support services for veterans and families in their own hometowns. Soldier’s Heart also sponsors a mentor program for seasoned veterans to mentor new returnees.
We are all witnessing daily those men and women who have served their country faithfully and find themselves thrust back into society with nowhere to turn for help.
Through this project, a fundraising is also underway to sponsor 20 veterans free-of-charge! Could there be a better way to give the gift of healing this holiday season than to sponsor a Veteran's healing? Our goal is $16,200 which will send 20 Vets - all expenses paid! Every penny donated will go towards sponsoring a veteran and is tax deductible.
WORKSHOP OVERVIEW
This intensive healing and training workshop will:
Provide groundbreaking techniques Dr. Tick has developed for over two decades.

Help veterans find inner peace and truly return home to themselves, their families, and their communities
The workshop is open to active duty, veterans and their families, counselors, therapists, healers, and members of the clergy and other pastoral care professionals.
